Far Cry 4

🐘🗻 Far Cry 4 – PC Game Review (Played on RTX 3050 + i5 13th Gen)

🔍 Overview

Far Cry 4, developed by Ubisoft Montreal, is a first-person open-world shooter set in the fictional Himalayan country of Kyrat. You play as Ajay Ghale, who returns to his homeland to scatter his mother's ashes — only to get caught in a brutal civil war led by the flamboyant dictator Pagan Min.

It’s a classic Far Cry experience: sprawling open world, chaotic combat, wildlife, crafting, and liberation gameplay — all wrapped in an exotic, mountainous setting.

🖥️ Performance on My Gaming PC

Specs Used:

  • GPU: RTX 3050 8GB

  • CPU: Intel i5 13th Gen

  • RAM: 16GB DDR4

  • Storage: SSD

  • Resolution: 1080p

  • Settings Used: Ultra or High Preset

🎮 FPS & Smoothness:

  • Ultra settings @1080p: ~60 FPS in most outdoor areas

  • High settings: Consistent 70–80 FPS

  • Very lightweight on modern hardware like RTX 3050

  • Minor stutter at times in older engine transitions, but easily fixable with updates or config tweaks

  • Game is very well-optimized for PC today, especially on SSD

👁️ Graphics & Visuals

  • Holds up surprisingly well in 2025

  • Stunning Himalayan landscapes — snowy peaks, dense forests, rivers, temples, and villages

  • Day-night cycle and dynamic weather add depth

  • Ultra settings deliver crisp textures, rich foliage, and clean water reflections

  • Character models are dated but serviceable

  • RTX 3050 handles it easily — you can max it out and still enjoy smooth gameplay

🔫 Gameplay & Combat

  • Signature Far Cry blend of guns, explosives, stealth, and chaos

  • Wide variety of weapons: bows, rifles, flamethrowers, shotguns, machine guns, C4, and throwing knives

  • Takedowns are satisfying, and dual-wielding adds flair

  • AI is reactive — they call for reinforcements, flank, or flee

  • Random events keep things unpredictable: enemy patrols, wild animal attacks, explosions from nowhere

🐘 Open World Exploration

  • Massive open world filled with:
    ✅ Outposts to liberate
    ✅ Bell towers to climb
    ✅ Karma events
    ✅ Hidden treasures and journals
    ✅ Drug-fueled side quests

  • You can ride elephants into battle, drive vehicles, use gyrocopters, or even wingsuit from cliffs

  • World is packed with verticality — cliffs, caves, rope ascents

🛠️ Crafting & Progression

  • Loot animals, plants, and enemies to craft ammo pouches, syringes, and gear upgrades

  • Skill trees split into "Elephant" (defensive) and "Tiger" (offensive) styles

  • XP is earned from missions, kills, stealth, and exploration

  • Customization isn’t deep, but effective

📜 Story & Characters

  • Story is simple but engaging — torn between two rebel leaders with clashing ideologies

  • Pagan Min, voiced by Troy Baker, steals the show — flamboyant, brutal, yet charismatic

  • Ajay is a quiet protagonist, letting other characters shine

  • Several strong side characters and dark, twisted side missions add narrative flavor

  • Moral choices and hidden endings offer replay value

🎧 Sound & Music

  • Atmospheric sound design: ambient wildlife, spiritual chants, wind through mountains

  • Satisfying gun audio and explosion effects

  • Musical score combines traditional Himalayan instruments with intense battle tracks

  • Great voice acting, especially Pagan Min and rebel leaders

🔁 Replay Value

  • Main campaign: 20–25 hours

  • 100% completion: 40+ hours

  • Co-op play for side missions (not campaign)

  • Multiple endings, karma system, outpost resets, and weapon experimentation

👍 Pros

  • Excellent performance even on Ultra with RTX 3050

  • Gorgeous and immersive world design

  • Fast-paced, explosive gameplay

  • Great villain and dark humor

  • Loads of content and side quests

  • Elephants, wingsuits, flamethrowers = 🔥

👎 Cons

  • Story can feel formulaic

  • AI sometimes predictable

  • Ajay isn’t the most engaging protagonist

  • Mission variety can get repetitive over time

  • Older animations and visuals show their age in cutscenes

Final Verdict

Far Cry 4 is peak classic Far Cry — offering stunning scenery, open-world freedom, and explosive combat. On your RTX 3050 + i5 13th Gen PC, you can run it on Ultra at 60+ FPS, making for a smooth, cinematic experience in the Himalayas. While the story is standard, the gameplay chaos and world immersion keep it addictive even today.
